Approximately 3x6x1.5" magnesia soldering block. Porous and fireproof block, used to support metalwork when soldering, also heats up and helps maintain the temperature of the piece. Effective for temperatures up to 2000 F (1093 C). Jewelry making tool. Press pins or wire into the block for special holds or supports. These blocks will wear with continued use, although they are durable and will outlast charcoal blocks. Similar to a charcoal block, a magnesia block reflects heat back onto your jewelry work.

When the surface of your magnesia soldering block has too many deep divots and pits, don't throw it away -- just take it outside and "sand" it down by scraping it against a sidewalk or paved parking lot. Good as new!
