Enamel firing supplies from Rings & Things make enameling easy!

  • The Enameling Spatula makes it easy to transport pieces from the sifting area, to the torching station without touching the enamel with your fingers.
  • The torching basket designed by Eugenia Chan works perfectly with powdered vitreous enamels. Use it with the tripod (below) instead of the mesh. (Some item shapes may be easier to fire with the mesh, but the mesh burns out eventually.)
  • The Handy Flame II Propane/MAPP Torch is our favorite for enameling: it heats pieces up the fastest, and can be used at any angle. But we also really like the Handy Flame Butane Torch head: it has a nice bushy flame, and is our only butane torch head that can be used up-side-down.
  • Bead Release and 4 sizes of steel mandrels help you enamel raw copper beads and copper tubing.

  • Great for firing enamels and Art Clay™ Silver, but not large enough to hold the firing pan required for COPPRclay and BRONZclay.To adjust the temperature, you can move the lid off-center or purchase an in-line controller (purchased separately - normally used by people turning the temperature down to 800 F for Keum-boo). A digital pyrometer can be used for exact temperature measurement, but is not normally necessary.The manufacturer provides excellent instructions in PDF format for using this kiln, including specifics for fusing glass, and firing PMC+, PMC3, PMC Onfire Sterling, Art Clay 650, FYI Fine Silver, FS999 Fine Silver, EZ960, Keum-Boo, and Cork Clay. (Plus they add new instructions periodically.)And the manufacturer provides videos on using the Ultralite kiln, now too!   • We tested it with a standard disposable propane tank (the type you get at outdoor and hardware stores, and seasonal displays at some grocery stores) and it works great, but we found it a little awkward for the disposable MAPP gas tank. However, our work bench had a very narrow lip, which may have been the problem.. If it looks rough or patchy, or forms a ridge when dipping, then add water (preferably bottled or distilled) and mix well. Do not store jar over 120F (50C).
