Available in a wide variety of beautiful colors, cubic zirconias (CZs) are synthetic (manmade) gemstones. Cubic zirconias are named after the sparkling Zircon (a zirconium silicate, ZrSiO4). Both the natural zircon and the manmade CZ have a very high refractive index, which means they sparkle brighter than most other stones.
Cubic Zirconias are the cubic crystalline form of zirconium dioxide (ZrO2), and are often mistakenly called "cubic zirconium". The gemological properties of CZs vary by manufacturer, due to variances in the type and amount of stablizer used to make isometric (cubic) crystals, and the oxides that are added to create each color of cubic zirconia.
You can safely clean your cubic zirconias with any jewelry cleaner or detergent. Be sure to rinse well to avoid leaving a residue that would dull the gem's shine.
