Sardonyx is a variety of onyx that typically comes in shades of red (the word "sard" means "red"). Our selection of sardonyx beads are normally dark, and mainly display shades of black, dark brown, dark red, and cream. Some look very similar to black onyx or black banded agate. These sardonyx semiprecious beads display beautiful patterns, including bands, stripes and swirls! When possible, we also carry the classic red variety of sardonyx. Red sardonyx is frequently heat-treated to intensify the red.
Spinel forms in a wide variety of colors: black, blue, red, violet, green, brown, pink, white and colorless, and is most famous for its brilliant red variety that closely resembles ruby. Spinel is also one of August's birthstones, sharing this month with peridot and sardonyx.
