Find lovely strings of rubies and sapphires to add to your DIY jewelry making projects. These genuine semi precious sapphire beads and ruby beads work great for stringing necklaces and bracelets, or to add a drop of color to custom birthstone jewelry. Ruby is July's birthstone, and Sapphire is September's birthstone.
Bead-quality sapphire beads are often opaque or semi-translucent, and vary in color from blue-green through true blue and denim blue, to blue-gray. Likewise, bead-quality ruby beads are opaque or semi-translucent, and vary in color from pale pink to dark reddish-pink.
Both ruby and sapphire are corundum: Ruby is simply the red variety of corundum, and all other colors are Sapphire. In the fine gemstone world, pink "rubies" are generally called "pink sapphire". But in the rock collecting and beading world, we usually call all pale pink to dark red corundum, "ruby".
