Hypoallergenic Jewelry Findings
Hypoallergenic is a popular marketing term, but in reality, it can be slapped onto anything that less than 50% of people are allergic to. This is why, whenever possible, we prefer to label our items with the exact materials they are made of -- or in some cases, not made of.
Roughly 6 - 12% of the population is allergic to nickel silver, so to craft the type of hypoallergenic jewelry that people are truly looking for (in other words, jewelry that very few people are allergic to), we highly recommend using nickel-free findings and supplies. Titanium, niobium, 925 sterling silver, Argentium® silver, 999 fine silver, vermeil and 12kt and 14kt yellow gold-fill are all nickel-free metals, meaning very few people are likely to be allergic to them.
Colors of Metal Jewelry Findings
Stainless steel findings are a good color match with "white" metal (rhodium color) supplies. Pewter findings provide a darker gray tone. Silver plated and silver filled findings give you a true silver color that matches 925 sterling parts. Raw brass findings come in an attractive warm gold tone that's popular in artisan jewelry. Plated brass comes in several colors, providing variety and quality at a good price. Copper provides its signature reddish-orange warmth and attraction, in both bright and antiqued finishes.
