These blanks require finishing, which might include decorating (stamping, gluing, etc.); adding holes; filing, sanding, or hammering the edges; polishing and/or antiquing. Raw brass is unplated brass that has been stamped out from a sheet on a punch press. Grease can remain on the items from the press during the stamping process. Raw brass charms sometimes have a thin coat of oil, so be sure to wash them before gluing. Warm water and mild detergent (dry after washing, to avoid water spots) or alcohol and a cotton ball will do the trick. Raw brass is not quite as shiny as most plated finishes. To make your raw brass items shinier, tumble-polish them with steel shot, water and a burnishing compound in a rock tumbler.
