Finishing Methods |
|
There are many methods for finishing necklaces. Most stringers develop personal favorites. For ideas, hints and specific instructions, try the stringing and bead books on pp. 320-22. Experiment to find the methods that work best for you.
When choosing clasps, keep your customer type in mind. Customers with fading eyesight often prefer the size and ease of lobster clasps to spring rings. Hook & eye sets and toggle sets are easy to put on and take off, but are inappropriate for lightweight necklaces. The security of pearl clasps makes them a likely choice for expensive materials. Inexpensive spring rings remain the most popular choice for most jewelry. Base-metal clasps are on pp. 33-7, and precious-metal clasps are on pp. 86-9. Clasps are normally paired with jump rings or split rings.
