CHUNKY IS THE BIG THING!

You fashion watchers out there knew this would happen. The new offshoot of the turquoise craze and the "return to Bohemia" is chunky gemstone jewelry. Larger, more solid beads of all kinds are fast becoming hot items, too. Great examples we're seeing include necklaces based on Baltic and other amber beads, gemstone pendants, vintage lucite or bakelite beads, handmade glass beads, or (of course) turquoise. Check out Rings & Things for great chunky beads, and ask your salesperson to check in our Showroom for special limited stock items!

GYPSY CHIC: Bead fashion rules the runways for 2003

Whether you call it haute hippie, new bohemian, or Gypsy Chic, the media are full of descriptions of this hot trend for 2002 and 2003. A nice thing about this trend is that it's a comfortable, familiar look. Just use your imagination to put together ensembles with peasant-style pieces, flea-market finds, and bohemian accents… such as beads! Even more than the super-hot 2002 turquoise trend, Gypsy Chic relies heavily on beads to get just the right look. Think of antique-looking Czech* firepolish beads, fringes of dagger beads, and colors ranging through earthy tones, natural colors, and a palette of rich hues.
Better still, this world bazaar style idea ties in with a larger trend in home décor, using a folk-art look that naturally works like a charm with your beaded creations. Rings & Things looks forward to seeing our customers' inspired glass bead and crystal work adorning countless Gypsy Chic "models" all over the country!

TURQUOISE IS HOT!

Turquoise is extremely popular right now, so we're trying very hard to keep up with demand. Here’s the nuggets:
The current word in the jewelry business is, if you want turquoise, buy it now. The available supply is disappearing quickly. Most domestic mines are played out and/or closed. Chinese mines are closed after a mine disaster near Wuhan. Treatment and cutting facilities can't keep up with demand. Quantity and quality are being affected by the fashion industry's love affair with turquoise and anything that looks like turquoise.
Whenever we buy new styles of turquoise, we can't keep them in stock long enough to catalog them!
Ask what new turquoise we have when you call. We don’t backorder turquoise at this time. The chances that we'll get the same stock as what's in the catalog, at a similar price, are very slim now…but ask what new turquoise is similar!

NEED TURQUOISE BEADS?

First thing to do: See our website here for an idea of the items we try to keep in stock. Ask your salesperson about current stock. We have a lot of very nice non-cataloged turquoise beads in our Showroom, in small batches, and we’re getting more from Arizona, Mexico, and China.
We also try to have excellent stock of turquoise at our trunk shows. Come and see us in your area! (See the list of shows online at www.rings-things.com/show.htm.)
Simulations of turquoise are also highly popular right now, including

Rings & Things has many of these, and will soon be stocking some excellent Czech formulated-glass (*not* just coated) turquoise beads in several popular shapes, too. Stay tuned, and browse our full-color catalog picture pages starting on page 129 for turquoise-colored items of all kinds.
You can also do a search at www.google.com for the keywords “making faux turquoise”, which will lead you to polymer clay recipes. Additional turquoise substitutes in the world of gemstones are prosopite (basically a variant of topaz), variscite, Peruvian opal, aquamarine, and “Sea Blue Chalcedony”. We occasionally have some of these at our trunk shows or in our showroom, and there’s good information about them in the August 2002 issue of Lapidary Journal, pages 12 and 46.
One last hint: Rings & Things also offers turquoise-colored hemp twine , which has been quite popular during this major craze. Since even turquoise-colored clothing has been popular this summer, bear it in mind, and have fun inventing creative ways to GO TURQUOISE!
