'Green' Rings & Things celebrates Earth Day…every day
With Earth Day (April 22) approaching, Spokane jewelry-parts wholesaler Rings & Things announces some efforts to be Earth-friendly in an industry that can be pretty tough on the planet. Some of the measures the company takes include:
- Using eco-friendly packing peanuts made of cornstarch instead of styrofoam.
- Equipping the warehouse with a tankless water heater that heats small amounts of water only as needed. This saves money and conserves energy that would otherwise be wasted to keep unneeded water hot.
- Selling cottage-industry items. Recycled-glass beads from Africa and Indonesia, resin beads from Indonesia, and Karen Hill Tribe fine silver from Thailand help sustain traditional, low-impact lifestyles on our planet.
- Voluntarily participating in the state's Commute Trip Reduction program, to help reduce pollution and congestion. Currently 84% of Rings & Things employees walk, bike, take the bus, carpool, or work from home instead of riding alone.
Among its other 'green' projects, Rings & Things also operates a highly successful recycling program, sponsors recycling at the annual Spokane Artfest, participates in the Spokane River Cleanup, and supports the Asthma Walk.
Business owners can learn about Earth-friendly practices, Earth Day events and environmental news at the Earth Day Network. For general recycling information, see The Internet Consumer Recycling Guide.
