Argentium® silver a breakthrough for wire artists

SPOKANE, WA, July 2005 – Take the beauty of sterling silver, subtract the dents and stains, and you have Argentium®. This unprecedented material is a recent addition to the wire selection at Rings & Things. Argentium wire looks identical to traditional sterling, but has dramatically better tarnish resistance and durability. It still contains the 92.5% fine silver legally required for sterling, but Argentium replaces about 1% of the normal copper content in sterling with germanium. This significantly alters the silver's properties, so that Argentium:

* Resists dents, scratches and abrasion
* Keeps its shine indefinitely without the need for polishing
* Increases its tarnish resistance over time
* Won't develop firescale when heated
* Fuses easily and can be laser welded
* Can be heat-hardened to almost twice the toughness of standard sterling
