Contest Winners Display Diverse Talents

Wholesale jewelry-parts supplier Rings & Things received the most entries to date during it's third annual Your Design Here contest! Each year, the Spokane, WA, business initiates a competition for the best designs of not just jewelry, but anything made using jewelry components. This year, entries were received from the United States, Canada, Australia, Northern Ireland, Switzerland, France, Belgium, and the United Arab Emirates.

This year's Grand Prize of $750 Rings & Things credit went to Svetlana Hinkle, of Spokane, WA, for her intricately-beaded piece "Buffalo Spirit." Seven First-Place winners each received $250 in Rings & Things credit. First-Place winners for 2006 are Svetlana May, "Gift from my Grandmother" (Glass); Svetlana Hinkle, "Buffalo Spirit" (Gemstones); Katia Everett, "Ocean of Dreams" (Nature); Cassandra Chamness, "Oceana Bracelet" (Mostly Metal); Patricia McKay, "Aunt Sadie's Garden" (Polymer Clay); Linda Stiles Smith, "Moments" (Metal Clay); and Kathy Wiesner-Fraga, "Elegant Gemstone Fiber Necklace" (Alternative Materials). Winning entries were chosen for excellence in three criteria, each weighed equally in the judging: originality, workmanship and aesthetics.

Winning entries (with credit to the designer) may be featured in Rings & Things' 300+ page full-color catalog, as well as in promotions, providing exposure to more than a million people a year, worldwide. Winning participants are encouraged to tout their accomplishment in "as seen in" promotions of their own.
