Faceted opalite nuggets and white coin-shaped pearls provide the focals for this sleek, modern set. Other parts used include gold hammered oval links, cog spacers (limited to stock on hand), metal hex beads (cornerless cubes), gunmetal (black) jump rings, ear wires and eye pins. If you can't find a genuine old skeleton key, then try one of our skeleton key charms. For a keyhole substitute, try a rectangle link or square filigree.

"Butterfly Dance"

Summer arrives in full bloom with the necklace and earring set on pages 98, 99 & 103 of Bead Trends' June 2009 issue. The green in the unakite faceted rondelles (larger sizes might have been purchased at a BeadTour road show) contrasts nicely with cherry "quartz" faceted rounds and cherry "quartz" flat faceted teardrops. Fill out the color spectrum with CRYSTALLIZED™ light topaz spacers (rondelles), CRYSTALLIZED™ garnet bicones and garnet ("cranberry") potato pearls. Cording & findings: 0.012" Beadalon, sterling two-strand box clasps, sterling ear wires, sterling crimp tubes and crimp covers.

"Carnelian Bow"

"The Empress"

Designer Erin Prais-Hintz combines 8mm oval chain, filigree bead caps and filigree connectors with green goldstone and natural mother of pearl gemstone beads. For a sparkling deep green focal, try a stunning emerald rivoli stone from CRYSTALLIZED™ – Swarovski Elements. Hook-&-eye clasps, ear wires.

Let Rings & Things get you started with 0.4mm Supplemax cord, 20-gauge copper wire, copper footage chain, copper jump rings, copper head pins, copper filigrees & copper ear wires. For focal beads, check out our huge array of gemstones, searchable by stone and also searchable by shapes, like gemstone tubes, gemstone rounds & gemstone heishi.

"Fiesta Wheels"

The wire-wrapped earrings on pages 92, 93 & 100 of Bead Trends' February 2009 issue are great for parties and picnics! You can wire wrap your own wire wheel (round link), or get the wrapped look without the work using 30mm wrapped wire coins! Then, adorn with roses montees (chatons montees) & 4mm fuchsia Swarovski® bicones (or any bicone colors of your choosing). For the finishing touches, you'll want size 11 copper seed beads, 5mm copper spacers, gunmetal ear wires & brass head pins.

"Arabesque Love"

Get in the mood for love with the design on pages 112, 113 & 117 of Bead Trends' February 2009 issue. The focal pink jasper rondelles in this piece were bought at one of Rings & Things BeadTour shows. Complement your pink focals with bright red carnelian gemstone rounds and "cranberry" (garnet) pearls. This design also uses 4mm garnet Swarovski bicones, 10mm light rose Swarovski margaritas (center-drilled flowers), copper bead caps, copper toggle clasps, copper ear wires, copper crimp tubes, sterling silver crimp tubes & nylon-coated steel Beadalon®.

"Nature's Charm"

As Heather Powers proves in the bracelet design on pages 120, 121 & 127 of Bead Trends' February 2009 issue, antiqued brass makes a great accompaniment to muted tones of polymer clay. Hold everything together with brass footage chain, 5mm copper daisy spacers, brass jump rings, brass headpins, leaf charms and toggle clasps. You can make your toggle clasp using a hammered link and bar of your choice.

"Chunky Charm"

Nataliya Zuevskaya's warm necklace on pages 137 & 141 of Bead Trends' February 2009 issue features Rings & Things' stunning cash-&-carry faceted natural agate slabs. Complement these focals with smaller, red carnelian gemstone beads, and top off the piece with bright 26-gauge gold-plated wire, 4mm gold-plated round beads, gold hook clasps, gold-plated crimps and gold crimp covers. 0.018" Beadalon®.

"Little Dream"

This sweet, gentle necklace on pages 150 & 153 of Bead Trends' February 2009 issue uses the dreamy blue of apatite to counterbalance the clear 4mm rock crystal quartz rectangles. But, aquamarine chips will create a similar pleasing effect. Finish the design with 4mm sterling silver rounds, sterling Bali flower spacers, sterling spring ring clasps, 5mm sterling jump rings and sterling silver crimps. Hold it all together with 19-strand Beadalon.

2008

"Sapphire Visions II"

For an elegant combination of blue and gold, see pages 14, 15 & 23 of Bead Trends' November 2008 issue. Blue pearls give the design subtle shimmer. Thai sapphire grounds the piece, but other blue gemstones work equally well: blue goldstone rondelles, lapis lazuli rondelles or sodalite rondelles. Vermeil and gold-filled components truly makes the design sparkle: vermeil spacer beads, gold-filled crimp tubes, gold-filled crimp covers, gold-filled earring posts & nuts, gold-filled head pins, gold wire protectors ("guardians") and textured gold-plated toggle clasps.

"Heart of the Rose"

Erin Prais-Hintz's design on pages 42, 43 & 47 of Bead Trends' November 2008 issue beautifully picks up on both the found-object trend and the gunmetal trend! Combine your own vintage focals with vintage Swarovski® crystal (limited to stock on hand), jasper gemstone oval beads, Bali sterling silver beads, sterling spacer beads, rollo chain & toggle clasps. You'll also want sterling ear wires, sterling head pins, sterling eye pins & gunmetal jump rings. For new glass beads that blend well with vintage parts, try our Czech faceted firepolish beads.
