The Hidden and The Known

A precious Japanese baroque pearl becomes "The known", sitting nestled in the palm of a sterling silver hand. "The Hidden" is a small collection of corn pearls tucked secretly inside. This stunning piece was a proud winner of an "Honorable Mention" in the 9th Annual Pearl Competition, held in Ainana City, Japan.

Art Clay Silver™ overlay paste was fired over the porcelain hand to create the pendant. Our large 18" sterling Popcorn Chain finishes off the award winning piece.

In this brooch, the title "Scream" is followed by the rest of a quote from a song by the band U2, "... without raising your voice." The thoughtful artistic accessory was created with sterling silver wire and Art Clay Silver additions.

This pendant is created from Art Clay Silver built over a cork clay armature, with silver flake surface applied in areas. The piece utilizes sterling chain and findings. It was featured in a Lapidary Journal article in January 2004.

"Heart-Faced Totem" is carved from brick and incorporates Art Clay Silver detailing. This creative figure was exhibited in the "Heart Movements" show, part of the 2004 Tokyo Craft Expo. It is part of a series of small-scale carvings created by the artist---each is made from unusual materials.

Lost Memories

This award-winning piece, titled "Lost Memories," from the 2003 Japanese Art Clay Silver theme exhibition "Fond Memories," is constructed from sterling silver sheet and findings with copper, porcelain, Art Clay Silver, dichroic glass and pearls. A large porcelain bead was cut to form the dome, which was painted and fired with ACS overlay paste. It was then hand-carved and colored with porcelain paints and prismacolor pencils. A quote from the movie Bladerunner runs across and through the piece: "All those moments will be lost in time like tears in the rain"

Behind the dome, seen through the center opening, is a sheet of transparent dichroic glass that reflects and refracts colored light, depending on what's behind the pin. The dome's silver lining enhances the effect.

This pendant is made of borosilicate glass with Art Clay Silver 650 Overlay Paste and Syringe Form ornamentation, in collaboration with glass artist Chris Chorvat. The movement in the glass coloration seemed "sealike" to the artist, which inspired the name.
