Artist: Naomi Eade (Cloverdale, Australia)
First Place, Mostly Metal

Although Naomi considered the wire work in this necklace an afterthought, we figured it was a pretty integral part of the design! Here’s Naomi’s story, in her own words: "The feature of this piece was always to be the faceted glass marquise beads forming a flower centerpiece. Pacific opal crystals were the perfect tone to bring out the colour of the transparent, almost clear, aqua beads [now discontinued]. The wire work that connects the beaded sections was an afterthought. The design was originally to be a simple flower centerpiece on chain. The wire ‘wiggles,’ which have become almost a signature in much of my work, add to the flower, changing the design from one of simple elegance to something much more fun and playful. The piece is simply finished with a sterling silver magnetic clasp. — Naomi Eade
