Glass & Crystal Category / Co-Grand Prize Winner

Asymmetrical

Artist: Candice D. L. Titus (Willow Grove, PA)
Co-Grand Prize / First Place, Glass & Crystal

"I have always loved creating jewelry to coordinate with fashionable outfits - and I simply love the trend of asymmetrical shirts. Often it is suggested to wear minimal jewelry with a one-shoulder neck line, and I thought it would be glamorous if a necklace were created to accent this style. In my creation, crystal pearls are woven together to form a stately rope from which five chains of graduated length hang down, adorned with dangling beads. A key aspect of the design process involved determining how I would attach the chain to the bead woven foundation of the necklace. I devised a stitch that would form a netting around a large crystal bead, allowing the hole of the crystal to be linked to the chain by head pin. I spent roughly 12 hours on this piece, dedicating nearly an hour to adjusting the lengths of the draping chains to achieve the asymmetrical effect I had been dreaming of!"
-- Candice Titus

Candice complemented the SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS crystal pearls with size 11 seed beads and faceted sparkly glass rondelles.
