Metal Clay Category

Legends #7

Artist: Lorrene Baum-Davis (Placerville, CA)
First Place, Metal Clay

"First I created the fused glass 'stone,' then ground it into shape and slumped it in the kiln. I used diamond drills to create a hole for the diamond, then I pre-set the diamond in the 14k setting and roughed up the outside. I stamped and carved both the shank and sides of the metal clay ring. I spent about four hours carving and sanding and shaping the ring. I then filled the hole in the fused glass with a non-burnout material, set the fused glass onto the ring with some Art Clay™ Silver syringe and fired the work at a firepolish temperature. After firing I brass brushed the ring, cleaned out the diamond hole in the 'stone' and tumbled the ring for two hours. Then I set the pre-set diamond into the hole with Epoxy 330."
