Three Little Orchids

Artist: Dawn Vertrees (Fort Lauderdale, FL)
Honorable Mention, Metal Clay

“I love the uniqueness of an orchid. When sculpting an orchid, it’s key to understand its anatomy. It's typically made up of six petals and when forming each petal you have to place them exactly as they grow, one on top of the other. When designing a pendant, I sculpt the piece as if the viewer could lift a pedal or a leaf and see a cluster of tiny buds or a stem. I want people to see my designs as if they were looking closely at the real thing.” – Dawn Vertrees
