Happy New Year Vessel
Artist: Ginnie Parrish (Cary, NC)
Honorable Mention, Polymer Clay
"I call this piece my "Happy New Year Vessel" because it was inspired by my New Year's resolution to clean up and organize my studio space, which had become cluttered with odds and ends of polymer clay canes and design pieces. In an effort to "use up" some unused polymer clay canes, beads, charms, etc., I covered a small glass vase purchased from the thrift store with polymer clay and proceeded to add cane slices, beads, wire, chain, etc, in a collage fashion. I also had a large quantity of ball chain I ordered in the wrong size a couple of years ago, and I discovered how cool it looked embedded in the polymer clay to create a trailing design. I added ball-shaped feet and a ball-shaped stopper to the vessel, both of which are formed out of solid polymer clay and covered with black and white cane slices. I coiled and hammered silver wire and added that and other beads to the top. The project took several hours to complete. My studio still has a ways to go, but I'm headed in the right direction!" — Ginnie Parrish
