"I first started making Bucky Balls one night at the end of 1999. In the years since then, I've added layers for structural integrity, and 90 crystals per ball for - well - sparkle! The four-layer balls tend to take me about 12 hours, although this one took more like 14 hours. I usually only use one, or maybe two or three colors of crystals, while this time I used 14 different colors of crystals, and carefully laid out the pattern before I started the final layer ..." — Erika Fabricius

Here at Rings & Things, we were very curious as to what a Bucky Ball was. Turns out it is a spherical form based on the structure of Buckminsterfullerene, a carbon configuration named after Buckminster Fuller, the scientist and architect who popularized the geodesic dome.
