Warm Cascade

" ... I [had] already purchased the earring threads and had never used them before, but was excited to try something new. I felt like the earring threads were too plain and predictable as is, and wanted to make them feel more organic. I took my round-nosed pliers and went along the sterling rod, pinching and bending until the piece looked hammered (hammering, I found out, didn't create as many facets). Once I was done, I oxidized and polished each thread. To choose which colors to incorporate, I decided that the faint shades of yellow from the citrine seemed to compliment the warm hues of the pearls. I hung the threads on an earring display when designing the pieces so that I could see how they would fall and if there were open areas that should be filled. It took a lot of putting-on and taking-off of the stones, pearls and beads, but I finally had the cascading shape that I wanted with a balance of light and dark colors. The first earring took about two hours to finish, but once the design was created, the second earring was much easier!" — Kimberly Lindgren
