Nocturnal Seas

Artist: Cheryl Moore (Staunton, VA)
First Place, Nature

"I was inspired to create this necklace by [thoughts of] the old sea priestesses of Celtic mythology, the queen of deep, dark, primordial seas ... of both nature and the subconscious. Water divining was a common prophetic practice of the ancient Celts, and, to me, the mysterious dark gleam of the paua shells, paired with the flash of the glass beads, set my mind to dreaming and divining ... and this is what emerged. This piece took a while—about nine hours total." — Cheryl Moore
