Cherries from my Grandpa’s Garden

Artist: Borbala Hidvegi (Budapest, Hungary)
Honorable Mention, Mostly Metal

"In the central part of Europe where I was born and raised, cherries are the first fruits of the year. I remember that as a little girl, I was so excited when the first cherries started to turn red on the old tree that my Grandpa had planted many, many years ago. To celebrate the coming summer with my sisters, we did not only eat as many cherries as we could, but we also decorated ourselves by hanging a pair of these fruits in our ears. Of course, these earrings did not last long, because we kept eating them. These memories inspired me to make these earrings, and hopefully these ones will last a lot longer." — Borbala Hidvegi
