Lapis, denim lapis vs sodalite

Hi, I was wondering if there is anyone out there that can tell me how to tell the difference between Denim Lapis and Sodalite.  Is Denim Lapis just a lower grade or lesser quality of Lapis?  Is Lapis and Sodalite related in any way?  Thanks for the response in advance.

They are indeed "cousins".

The term Lapis applies to a group of stones but most people are referring to Lapis "Lazuli" when using the term. The main difference is that Lapis Lazuli contains sulphur -- which contributes to it's rich blue color. The secondary difference is price... true Lapis Lazuli is a pricier stone.
