I've been asked to make some jewelry for a bridal fashion show. I've got a lot of it done - but I want to make a simple necklace where the beads seem to float in place.

I've been making jewelry for years - but have never done one of these.

I don't want the 'fish line' look - but more the thin pretty wire. What do I use?

Also - I think I saw a post somewhere else on this board about a product that is some type of crimp to hold the beads in their place?

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you

Hi- you might be talking about SmartBeads. These have a gripping substance inside them that grips and holds a position on any cord you choose to use. Before the advent of these awesome beads- illusion necklaces could only be created using glue or crimp beads (which can often damage or weaken the transparent cord).

Currently there is no "wire" that is either transparent or flesh colored. These "illusion" necklaces are made with clear cord (similar to fishing line) because that is the only transparent cord available. Although there are a few product names for this cord, the product we sell is called Supplemax.

If you are interested in using "wire" (or beadalon), I would suggest checking out our new line of Satin Beadalon. For wedding quality, consider using a 19 Strand, 0.012 diameter style. The larger the strand number, the stronger the wire (it will kink less, and hold an "illusion" shape better than smaller strand beadalon). 49-strand beadalon is considered professional quality.

And finally, we offer a Designer Tip Sheet for an illusion necklace (Called "Tropical Illusion). Although this was made prior to SmartBeads, it will give you some idea of how to create a similar piece. To view the tip sheet you'll need adobe acrobat. To view the piece in our on-line gallery click here: Tropical Illusion necklace.

Hope this helps- let us know if you need anything else.
