Hello
I made some leaf prints that turned out to thin (650 clay). After firing I tried to paint over a new layer of clay (also 650).
After burning the two layer had only partly joined and partly curled away and did show shrink problems.

A'm I correct (after reading info on the site)that I can onley solve such a problem with the help of the oil paste?

Thanks dubmblond

Oil Paste would certainly be a way to go - although I am concerned about detail loss.  If that won't be a problem, get a decent layer on your piece and make sure it's dried well before you fire it

It sounds like you are torch firing, so this is a delicate process for torch work.  I might use more thinner layers.  If you hold the firing temperature for a longer time, you may get a better bonding - You don't want to get hotter, just hold it longer in .
When you are working pieces like this and you are adding on to already fired metal, don't do any of the finish work - no brushing or burnishing - the add ons will bond better if you don't.
Hope this helps

Frequently several thinner layers work better then one or two thick ones
good luck with it
