Hi, my name is Zack and I'm a highschool senior. Jewelry/ metalsmithing has been a hobby and passion of mine for quite a few years now and I just happened to come across a bag of amber. After many long annoying nights of sanding it down and applying a coat of oil (for a good shine) I saw that I have two tiny (about 2-3mm) sized bugs. My stone is about 25mm x 30mm and I was curious if anyone could tell me a value.

Hi Zack,

With out seeing the stone it would be hard to gauge it's worth.  You're talking about fossil amber so I know that could fetch a good price depending on it's quality and the quality of the bug specimen.  Here is a link to a site that sells these types of fossil amber.  As you can see from that site- the type of bug/specimen is important to the worth of the stone.

I found this by searching for fossil amber.

Another option would be to go talk to your local rock hounds.  They can usually be found through any lapidary shop.

I hope this helps & good luck with your search!!

P.S.  Russ Nobbs (our owner) is fairly good at this kind of stuff- but I believe he's out of town for a while- maybe check back and post a picture, if you have not found an answer in the next couple of weeks?
