Looking to get your resale ID, but not sure where to start?
Every region (country, state, and sometimes county) is a bit different, so calling your local City Hall or Chamber of Commerce is a good place to start.

But if it's midnight right now, and they aren't open ... or you like to do all your research before you call, here it is!

This site has helpfully put together a list of each state's Business Startup Guidelines.  Those links mostly go to .gov sites.  This page from the Federation of Tax Administrators has links to tax info for each of the 50 states. Our R&T page has info specifically for Washington State residents.

And then here are some more specific questions from our board:
- Do I need to get official with a DBA or not?
- Tax question on consignment
- Tax IDs for selling on the web?

Some of the older links above got their order scrambled in a Forum upgrade.  Not sure why or how it did this, just be aware that the question might be in the middle with answers above and below.
