Snowflake pins

Hello,
I am looking to make snowflake pins for the holidays -- I have seen the wire forms for ornaments, but they are larger than I need.
I want to try and make a pin 1 1/2 " - 2 inches in diameter and used austrian crystals in the design
Next question is -- once I find something like that and assemble a pin -- what would be the best kind of pin back for it?

Hi Kimmie,
I love your question. Not because we have a perfect finding for you, but because I've been trying to design one that is cost-effective enough for our buyers to really consider adding to our line.
I've discovered that having something like this stamped, is fairly expensive due to waste metal that would be cut out and thrown away. So a wire form of some kind makes sense... but those are labor-intensive.
In the projects section of our Web site, we do have a wire-wrapped snowflake, but it's not quite what you're asking about, because you make the "form" and string beads directly onto it, rather than wrap beads around an existing form.
Wire and Czech bead snowflake project
The best kind of pin back, will depend on how the rest of your pin is put together.
Scatter pins
(aka Tie Tacks) work well for small pins that don't have a precise "up" or "down" side. These are normally glued onto the back of a flat item.
We have quite a few styles of
bar pins
, in a few qualities. All can be used for gluing onto flat back items, and also have holes that can be used to wire them onto a more free-form item (or one that is already made of wire).
If you can sketch out your ideal snowflake form finding, and mail, e-mail or fax it to us, that would be great. We'll see if it's something we can have made for a reasonable price. Call me at 1-800-366-2156 x131 if you have questions or need an e-mail address to fax a sketch to. Or you can fax to 509-838-2602, attn: Polly.
