Hi there,

I'd like to make lockets for backpacks.  Do you know what materials would be sturdy enough (and endure the occasional rain) -- and if so, do you carry/could you make that in a locket?

Many thanks!

Generally metals do fairly well for this sort of applications. What you would like to protect in the locket is also a consideration. As well as it's size and how valuable and/or irreplaceable the object is.  I have seen sterling silver lockets fabricated by a silversmith to hold microfice texts. The microfice was put into the lockets and sealed with wax. This preserved the text but was not a method you could reverse and look at with any regularity.  This sort of thing would need to be custom designed and made with a silversmith but would certainly be durable.
You could also make such things out polymer clay for example, after working out the considerations. The cost factor is also a consideration.
