Hi.
i am new to the forum and i have a dilemma, i have an order for over 1000 silver pendants, on a leather cord. we tested the leather to make sure its did'nt tarnish, after 2 weeks, it has tarnished.
how can i stop the leather tarnishing the pendant, is there something i can treat the leather with.

Unfortunately, many things tarnish silver, and most take some time to show up.

I think you are better off treating the silver, than the leather.  The texture, finish and durability of leather could be adversely affected by coatings put onto it.

Although we don't sell any, I believe there are lacquer finishes you can apply to the silver pendants.  However, this would be before stringing them.... '<img'>

I hate to suggest taking all 1,000 necklaces apart, polishing and lacquering the pendants, letting them dry (probably for 24 hours) and then putting everything back together again.

Something you might want to try ... but I don't know if it would work ... is the Hagerty Silver Protection strips.  I'm guessing the necklaces were in a small area, perhaps plastic bags, and that something in the leather slowly outgassed and started affecting the silver.  A few of these strips in the storage area might neutralize the (future) tarnish ... but I don't think they will REVERSE the existing tarnish.

I wish you luck!
Both on this batch, and future batches of goods.

Many times, with silver, it is something with sulfur in it that tarnishes the silver.  Polly has your best case scenerio there - try the protection strips.  You may also do a 'value add' to the pieces if you can work it in. Send along a polishing cloth with the pendants.  We can special-order cloths for you with your logo and the whole nine yards.  If your order isl ocked on price, this may have to be for next time.
