Neophyte needs advice.

Gemstone guitar picks are very pretty, but expensive due to the fact that a lot of semiprecious gemstone material crumbles when you get it that thin (especially when working with home shop equipment).  In other words, I think there is likely to be a lot of breakage and discarded material involved, unless you are very choosy about the stones you cut.

I have some idea of the general type of equipment you would need, but don't know the proper terminology.  Lapidary experts out there... please help post equipment suggestions!

Hi all, just stumbled on this place, looking for lapidary info.

I have it in my head that I want to make stone guitar picks. What equipment would I need, and what are some good sources for same? I wonder if a 1 mm thickness would present any special proplems. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
