Someone has asked me to make an Illussion necklace.  I ordered the Supermax clear cord.  I then ordered glue as I was reading that is the easiest way to attach the pearls and keep them in place on the cord.  Is this the best way?  I see this becoming a real mess.  Anybody have any advise?  Thanks

-smart beads... I love smart beads with illusion necklaces.  They are a really new product and I 'think' they just may replace glue for illusion necklaces.  They have a 'keeper' type  substance inside the hole that keeps them where you want them.

Here is a link to the smart beads we offer....  hope it helps.

How do you finish the illusion necklaces? I love the look and want to make a few for upcoming shows, but I haven't worked with the Supermax yet....do you use regular clasps and crimps or is there a better way to finish them?

Hi Lynn:
We just added the full instructions for this necklace, Pearl Illusion in our gallery... so your timing is impeccable!   '<img'>

Most of these types of necklaces are choker length, with a chain attached to the end for adjusting the length. You can finish a multi-strand illusion necklace with a fold-over crimp, a small bullet end or a bead-tip.  SuppleMax can be finished just like Beadalon.  It comes down really to personal taste and... well... what you're good at and feel most secure working with.  Here is a good page regarding finishing, with all the product links you may need: Finishing Methods

I finished this one with a bead-tip... AKA a clam shell.
Crimp the ends of your cord inside the cup portion of the bead tip, then add a drop of glue for security, or, if you are using a thin cord, you can tie a knot.  Close the bead tip over the crimp bead (or knot) and add your clasp of choice.

Hope this helps- let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks Mary, that necklace is absolutely gorgeous!!!  I did end up ordering a bunch of bead tips with my last order (is it here yet? '<img'> ) to use, I think that will give the best finish.

I'll go check out your instructions...thanks!!!!

Order arrived today, and I couldn't wait to start playing!  Ordered the wrong bead tips '<img'> but made due with what I had on hand for starters.

One of the finished products:

I didn't add the adjustment chain, but I think this will be fine for now

Actually, I think it is only "sorta" broken for us at Rings & Things.  I think we're having some proxy server issues.  Try right-clicking on it, and tell it to "show image" and then it works.  Or view properties, then cut and paste the real link and "Voila!" there it is.  (And after that, "show image" works)
For some reason, our proxy server THINKS the image link is broken.  I've been running into that recently and am not sure why.

Actually, for once it isn't our proxy. That blog doesn't allow outside linking to images. '<img'> If you right click on it and open the image in your browser by going directly to the site you'll be able to see it here because it will then be cached locally, even if you aren't on a proxy. '<img'>

INteresting!  Todd must be right (again!) because I had the same problem here in HK on the hotel's T1. Once I told it to view the image it put the image in the mesage as usual. Must be bacause it's now cached locally.

Yeah, it is a bandwidth thing. A lot of people, some on purpose, some by accident, some by not knowing any better steal bandwidth from other peoples servers by linking directly to images. In response many people have set their servers to not allow outside links to thier images. The server just won't send the data to any outside websites.

We've had it done to us before, so I can certainly understand why some Server Admins would do it. Problem is it blocks the good along with the bad.

I'll have to post a photo of it from my PC and delete the earlier one. ;-)

Back to the subject of the illusion necks and the SmartBeads ;-)....I picked up some of the Silver Beadalon and used it on an illusion neck.  It was REALLY difficult to get the wire into the SmartBeads.  I had to re-cut the end of the wire several times, at an angle, to get it almost like a needle to go through. Is there a trick I'm missing?

"Thread" your beadalon on a big-eye needle, fold over the end of it so it won't come out- and string it like thread.  I know it's a bit odd- but it works!
