This chain has the stock# 40-099-29-color. Your 2011/2012 wholesale catalog lists this as soldered steel on page 392, but on the website, it says it's brass in the summary, but steel in the detailed description:
"Stock#: 40-099-29-6
Weight: 0 lbs 4 ozs
Page Number: 392
Item Size: 2.8mm, 10-meter
Material: Brass
Color: Antiqued Brass Plated
Country: China
Flattened cable bulk footage chain, 2.8x3.3mm links. Approx. 10-meter (32.8 feet) spools. Approx. 14 soldered links per inch. Lead-free soldered steel. "
I'm guessing this is actually steel, not brass?

Hi Artemis,
It is soldered brass, rather than steel.
One color (the gold plate) has a layer of iron-nickel plating
between
the brass base and the gold plate. So, when we checked the chain with a magnet, we accidentally described the chain as made of steel. Later we learned the base material was brass, but forgot to update all the details. Thank you for asking -- we'll update the remainder of the description now!!
