Hello fellow crafty types =)

I am fairly new to working with resin and as I was browsing through R&T's site, I came across the Castin' Craft Opaque Pigments and Transparent Dyes.  I was wondering if these colorants had to be used with a specific type/brand of resin, or if they'll work with most brands.  I know the product description says for use with the EasyCast resin sold by R&T, but I didn't know if that was simply because EasyCast is the brand of resin sold by R&T.  I currently am using ICE Resin and have been coloring it with a variety of oil paints, but I am curious about the Castin' Craft line of products.  Any information, thought or suggestions would be great!!

Thanks

According to the ICE Resin site, it is not recommended:

However, I have seen these items being sold together on a variety of other sites, and would expect that is because they have been used successfully.  I haven't tried it myself, so I can't give a definite yes or no.  Experimentation is key.

I have experimented with a lot of resins and a lot of colorants. Generally if a colorant is designed to go with resin - it should work well with the majority of brands out there.  Even 2 part epoxies will probably color well with resin colorants.  I frequently use particulates with resins as they are usually inert and mix well with the resin - you know - powered paint pigments, bronzing powders, that sort of thing. I am a little surprised that the oil paints are working - I would think that the varnish and oils [like linseed oil] would interact badly with the resins but if you are getting good results -ROCK ON!!
As Rita has pointed out- experimentation is the way to go.  Always do a test before you make that championship piece to send into the Rings & Things design contest [going on right now!]

Thanks Metalman and RitaD for your thoughts.  I ordered a few of the opaque pigments and transparent dyes and they've arrived, so I plan to begin my experiments in the next few days.  I will let you know how it turns out.  Btw, Metalman, ICE Resin is the only resin I've had much luck with using the oil paints.  A friend of mine gave me some of her EasyCast resin to try out so I could compare brands and what not, and even adding just a drop of paint to the almost full cup of mix resin, the piece came out kind of tacky and attracted all sorts of yucky-ness.  Of course, I had similar problems with some pieces cast with EasyCast that I didn't color, so...I guess take from that what you will  laugh

Thank again.  I'll post again soon.
