Inventory Queen

« on: October 29, 2010, 04:56:04 pm »

I've used both easy cast 2 part resin and Lisa Pavelka's magic glos on various projects.

Currently, I have a couple of projects that have a layer of resin, but need to be finished off, and I can't remember which type I started with.

Does anybody know if the two are compatible?  I would prefer to just put a thin layer of UV resin on top, to finish these projects, but I'm not sure if I should.

If you don't think they can be mixed do you know of any (non-destructive) way to determine which resin was used?

Thanks for any help.

My first thought is that with the epoxys once one layer is set, a second layer of a different type should settle okay. I usually find that when I change or combine different materials [ different kinds of glue or plastics or solvents] then I run into problems. But if they are of the same family[like both epoxy] I would expect them to be compatible.
Of course - this is one of those places to do experiments before you apply a material to that championship piece you've been working on for months

Hello Metalman.  Speaking of epoxy, I am a neophyte cufflink designer.  What is the strongest epoxy that will secure stones onto a metal link?

2-part epoxy adhesives give a strong bond.  Generally, the longer the "set" time, the sturdier the bond.

I'm a big fan of the 24-hour Rings & Things house-brand 2-part epoxy, because I still own earrings that were glued with it in the early 80's, and haven't come part yet.
