"silver plated" vs. "white"

I need to get some bails, but what is the difference between white and silver plated? They are on this page here, items 41-248-1  and  41-248-3

"White" is a base-metal approximation of a silver look, like most forks/spoons/knives these days.

"Silver plated" is exactly that -- plated with real silver for the more authentic, lustrous look.

Adding to what Dave said, White and Silver plate are very similar, and in many cases, work fine mixed together.

Dave & Polly, are the "white" metal components nickel-free?  That would be the only other important difference I can think of.  I'm allergic to some base metals, so I usually stay clear of anything that isn't at least silver-plated.

Younger people usually don't care so much--that allergy tends to show up in middle-age.  (Just another drawback of getting older.)  (Hey--I just realized that means I HAVE to wear gold and sterling!  Woot!)
