Hello, I'm new here (though not to purchasing from Rings N Things). I have two necklace pendants, look to be copper or bronze or  (?). Both are stamped on the back but I can't read them. I'd like to put them in another piece but would like some background story on the pieces. I've got photos ready to post.. does anyone here know of a site where I can post the photos and get some help with possible ID of where they came from and who made them? One looks fairly modern, possibly vintage; the other looks -and I swear its true- like two duck-headed people riding horses.

Thanks in advance,
Trader

You could post the pics here for starters.  We usually have a good group of willing participants!

Besides, I want to see if the duck people match my memories of old Donald Duck comics...  icon_34

Our forum is sometimes tricky to upload photos to.  So you might want to upload pix to Flickr.com or Photobucket.com, and then post links here, to your flickr/photobucket images.

I am also new to the forum, but I have been making jewelry for several years now. One of the things I especially enjoy doing is taking "old" pieces and making them new and wanted again.  So I have tried looking up pieces online.  If you can make out any of the makings or if your piece is singed in anyway, you can put that in a search engine and may be able to find it or something very similar. You may also want to try this web site  http://www.illusionjewels.com/costumejewelrymarks.html
Hope this helps. Good luck. Teresa icon_34

Thanks to all of you for the help! I'll sure check out the suggested resource AND I'll try the photo thing. Unfortunately, while I enjoy making jewelry, I'm NOT computer literate and don't even know what "Photo bucket" is, etc.. so it looks like I'll have to figure those out, first!

I live kind of in an isolated area, and don't always have high-speed internet, so things always take a bit longer to figure out how to do!

OR, if people can send me their email, I'll try to send the photos that way?

Again, thanks!

Hi Trader, I'm emailing you separately.  I'm willing to have you email the pix to me, & have me upload them here.  banana

Wow, Trader, you are fast  Cheesy

Here are some photos Trader emailed to me, with these comments:

"These aren't antique pieces, but are possibly vintage or near vintage, I think. They came in a box with a lot of other unusual necklaces, like one with fake amber (I think the pieces came from Africa but they aren't real amber, just big rough pieces of plastic made to LOOK like amber); a ton of vintage Kuchi beads and quality metal beads from Afghanistan and India (not the modern tinny metal ones). Most of these I've converted into other jewelry and stage costumes successfully but these two are more challenging

Thanks again! I look forward to visiting the Spokane wholesale room in future and look forward to the discussions on your group. I've been reading back and there's a lot of good information there!"

Anyone have ideas about the nature of these pieces?

@flowersbyfarha on Twitter responded to my comment that one of these looks maybe Afghani.  She said (remember these are brief "tweets"):

"Pendant 2 looks modern, could be from anywhere. Pendant 1 I don't think is Aghani--or at least not made by Muslim"

"Re: Pendant #1 @Rings_Things Wonder if it could be Tuvan Mongolian see Horse head on instrument http://bit.ly/wuxa5"

I have to say that my first thought on seeing the "marks" was (with my background in linguistics) that those really looked like Mongolian writing.  (Which runs from top to bottom.)  Could Farha be on the right track?
