[Hi all, new to this forum (used to be on the old B&B forum before they recently split it up into 3 and screwed it up!)... I wrapped these pendants today in prep for making necklace sets for a show at the end of Sept and realized I'm not sure what stones they are.  Can anyone shed some light?  Russ, what do you think (you know everything... you can probably ID these stones on sight).  I think the large blue stone is azurite or chalcydony (I originally bought it because I thought it was azurite).  The round multicolor stone is maybe some kind of mexican zebra jasper?  (PS, I couldn't figure out how to get the pics to come up, but after 4 tries got the http:'s to come up.  The help section was useless)

Thanks to all who reply!  ''

ooh, ooh, is this a guessing game?

Here are my choices:
1) moss agate
2) sodalite or something dyed
3) rhodonite
4) agate

Wierd!!!
I'm sure I replied to this a few days ago, quoting Polly's private note. I musta used the back arrow instead of the post.  Sorry to not get you an answer in a timely manner.
Anyhow, Polly said :
I'm not too sure what her stones are, but could make some generic estimates.

#74 - definitely looks like Jasper, not sure what specific flavor.
#75 - looks like azurite malachite, but I'm not positive.
#77 - the trapezoidal reddish stone ... I'm really not sure!
#79 - is certainly pretty.  It looks like some type of agate, that would most likely have a leafy, flowery or icey name attached to it.

The bigger image in her signature:
the large beads look like azurite malachite, probably one of the pseudo or totally manmade versions. A zoomed-in image of a couple of those specific beads would be useful.
I agree that the small ones in the sig piece look like man made azurite/malachite block.

The first one (#79) I'd just call a dendritic agate that happens to look like a tree.
The 2nd one (#75) dyed lapis, maybe from CHile with the white sections. I don't think it's one of the composite lapis/malachite compressed nugget sold as Azurite.
The third one  (#77) Karin thinks it might be mahogany obsidian or mahogany jasper. (they are both just descriptive names, I think.)
The last one  (#74) Karin says there used to be some ocean jasper that was similar but those colors are not seen lately in Ocean jasper.  Otherwise it might be red crazy lace agate.  I agree it could be either.

(Karin just got back from stone buying in China and sees most of the new stones that come thru our warehouse. )

It's a good thing I don't work in the gemstone department at R&T--I'd be so fired!

LOL  If you worked in the gemstone department at R&T you'd be arguing over the names that come on the invoices from China along with the rest of us.

It's really hard to tell what some of these stones are. There are so many jaspers and agates that similar.....

I swear some of the names change every year!  My current favorite is serpentine vs. "new jade".  What was wrong with serpentine??  It was BIBLICAL!   ':p'
