I have seen some jewelry recently that is looks like colored glass globs soldered together with (soft) silver solder.  Would I simply use a copper-foil technique with this?  If so, would the stay-brite be a good option or just regular lead-free solder?  I am worried that the Staybrite is too small an amount of solder to handle several of these pieces.

Thanks so much!

I recently saw single pieces like this (a clear glass "cabochon" like those sold for fish tanks and flower arrangements, with a picture on the back, and one of our pendant finding/bails on the back.  Then the copper foil was added (this was actually a silvery-colored foil but not lead?) and then stay-brite soft solder was flowed all over to cover the seams.
It looked a little primitive, but very nice.  (Using small photos from magazines, pictures from magazines, etc. would be a great way to make custom cabochon jewelry.)

I don't think the soft solder would be strong enough to hold multiple globs together without something else holding them too.  That something else could simply be the foil, or perhaps a stabalizing piece of wire running across the background, then covered up with foil?

You certainly can use the foil method - should work great.
Stay-Brite will/would be a good way to go - especially for jewelry usage, although any lead free soft solder would be about the same.  You can find Stay-Brite in 1 lb rolls - I last saw this at my welding supply house.

For those in the Spokane, WA area, we'll be offering a class soldering a glass pebble or maybe some microscope-type slides together (with an image between them) this Fall (2007).

Dates aren't set yet. More details to follow, at http://www.rings-things.com/classes
