Hello Mr. Metalman!
I want to start adding gold to my Porcelain/Silver Overlay jewelry pieces, can you recommend a Gold for me to use so that I can order it today from you?
I also noticed you have Bisque Beads (out of stock) getting those in anytime soon?

For you applications, there is Art Clay Gold Paste (1.5g) it comes in a viscous liquid form, so that you can add texture or draw directly on the surface of Art Clay Silver (fired piece), ceramic, porcelain and/or glass. This product has 77.5% of indicated weight in 24-Karat gold, and it becomes 22-Karat gold after firing. Art Clay Gold Paste comes in two bottles. One has 1.5gm of thick paste; the other contains a 5ml medium that is used to dilute the paste to a more workable consistency on glazed surfaces.
Fires at 800ºC / 1472ºF. The holding time will vary depending on the combined material.
We can special order this material for you.

Hi Metalman!
Just received my gold...thank you very much. And now of course I have questions.
Although I do plan to add Gold accents to my Silver Overlay pieces but what about adding this directly to my fired porcelain?
The instructions are for adding the Gold over the already fired Silver piece (unburnished). I hope they are also referring to the Silver Overlay as well as Silver Clay?
How many coats and at what thickness? Should I use the instructions for thinning it down based on the instructions for painting it on?
They say you should fire this at a preheated temperature of 1650 F. But what does that do to the Silver Overlay that has been fired at 1430 F?
Preheated Kiln at 1650F?...that's a bit hot to preheat a Caldera Kiln and sticking my hands in there to add this Gold Piece. Did I missing something on these instructions? I always thought Gold was fired at a lower temperature than the Silver?
Thanks for your help.

This should work but you will need to experiment abit with it
The instructions are for adding the Gold over the already fired Silver piece (unburnished). I hope they are also referring to the Silver Overlay as well as Silver Clay?
THey are referring to ACS pieces that are not made over porcelain. In your case, the gold should work fine on to your unburnished overlay paste
How many coats and at what thickness? Should I use the instructions for thinning it down based on the instructions for painting it on?
I would follow the gold paint instructions here - you may want to see if thinner works better but you will need to watch getting your final coat too thin as the gold may 'disappear' into the silver
They say you should fire this at a preheated temperature of 1650 F. But what does that do to the Silver Overlay that has been fired at 1430 F?
With your porcelain - you will need to start cold and go upto the 1650°F temperature. Putting your porcelain into a hot kiln is a recipe for disaster!!
Preheated Kiln at 1650F?...that's a bit hot to preheat a Caldera Kiln and sticking my hands in there to add this Gold Piece. Did I missing something on these instructions? I always thought Gold was fired at a lower temperature than the Silver?
No, gold has a higher sintering and melting temp then silver
hope this helps

You bet it helps, thank you but I have two more question...
I always thought Gold was fired at a lower temperature than the Silver?
No, gold has a higher sintering and melting temp then silver.
OK, being that the Silver Overlay is fired at 1430F...is the silver going to be OK under the Gold? What does 1650F do to the silver? Evaporate?
Do I need a "Hold" once the temperature reaches 1650F?

yes
What does 1650F do to the silver?
Fine SIlver [ACS]melts at 1762°F so, 1650°F is close but not melting.
Evaporate?
NO
Do I need a "Hold" once the temperature reaches 1650F?
I suspect so, maybe 5 mins - there should be a time listed in the instructions
