I bought an assortment of your new cloth pendant necklace cords recently.

They are very nice, excellent quality, especially for the price, and the color selection is excellent.

All the ones I bought have dangly cords to attach my pendants (as opposed to the plain cords) and now I can't figure out how to attach them!

I have forgotten all my macrame (from 30 years ago, understandable.)

The cord is a bit slippery, so will end knots hold?

The ends look like they could unravel--is a dot of glue necessrary to secure the ends?  Or would some sort of bead tip work better?

I thought I could simply slide the loose cords through a hole in my pendant and knot them at the bottom, but the dangly cords are sorta thick....

Many, many questions, and I'm thinking someone on the R&T staff may already have some of the answers...??   '<img'>

Thank you!!

Hi lady

Ok these are kind of tricky- and your timing is once again, amazing- we are currently working on getting a how-to section in our next supplement about this. Hopefully we will have better pictures soon- but I will do my best to explain it with what we have...

First- the best way I found IS to use a macramé knot- you can find illustrations on the web- but it's the same as a square knot, except that you have two cords in the center of the two cords you are "knotting" (try to picture two cords in the center of this knotting technique below):

(you can see an example of this method on page E-22 of our summer supplement- by the way- or in our gallery http://www.rings-things.com/gallery/displayimage.php?p=383

-The trick with the pendant cords is the pendant, use a pendant with a hole size of 2mm or bigger.
-Insert strings (in opposite directions for a side drilled hole), so you have roughly an inch of string above the pendant.
-You'll then work upwards, with the remaining string ends, making your macramé knots until you have covered the inch space above the pendant.
-These necklace cords are made out of nylon- so you can do your knotting, and even attach dangle beads on the remaining ends- then very carefully- burn the ends. Let the nylon form a small ball under the bead, and that should do it!

-Let me know if you figure out a different technique too- I'm curious to see what people figure out with these.

Thanks Luann!

Great minds think alike!  Either that, or we're so consumed by beading stuff, we can't think about anything else...  Hmmmm.

Okay, Mary, you've got me stumped.  My pendants aren't side drilled.

But maybe I could attach them to something that IS side-drilled...?? !!  I gotta think about that one.

And thanks for the heat-beaded nylon tip!  That makes everything a little easier.

Maybe if you had a contest on techniques for attaching stuff to the cords, all the solutions could end up in a little booklet for sale at R&T?  Just a thought...

Thanks again,

Here are some Basic macrame' knotting instructions, although they are for a different project (making a basic bracelet).
