when to use death soft or half hard wire?

Generally the half hard is used by wire wrappers so that after a couple of turns or wraps it work hardens further and finishes with a good stiff finish.
If you are silver brazing [also called silver soldering or hard soldering], then you will soften the wire with the heat - no point in using half hard if it gets heated up and 'annealed'
By the way, that would be dead soft
