adding clay to fired piece

Has anyone had success adding acs 650 (slow dry) to an already fired piece and re-firing? I have a ring I made that I want to add a raised detail element to. I've put it on using a little "slip" clay and it's drying now. Will it likely fire and adhere to the ring or just fall off. I can only torch fire, no kiln.
Thanks for your help!

I have done this with good results and torch fired.
You should be okay
Sometimes when doing this I have found additional cracks around the area added on. I just add more paste and fire again.
It sometimes takes a few firings but you will get it.

I thought you needed to use oil paste if you were going to add clay to a fired piece. Am I wrong?

Oil Paste would be used to join two or more pieces that were already fired. It is good for metal to metal joins. The kind of thing where both pieces have been fired.
Joining unfired to fired can be done but generally you to not do any finishing work so that there pieces will stick.
By the way, wire brushing with your stainless steel brush counts as finish work.

hmm....ok I am hoping that I did not just muck up a piece. I had a fired piece that broke, so I added an unfired piece to it with oil paste and then torched it. NOW, I have just been reading that I should have used regular paste and or maybe not torched the oil paste.
I have no kiln, but am wondering about the pieces integrity. To attach the pieces, I used several thinner to thicker layers of oil paste. Should I refire in a kiln now?
Man, all of these little details are killing me...

My preferred method is to join the pieces with a coat of oil paste and then a couple of thin coats of overlay paste once the oil paste dries.
I have torch fired this sort of thing - I would hold it at temperature longer then usual. So if it should be 1 1/2 mins. I would do 2 1/2 to 3 mins with the torch.
Kiln firing is probably better.
As to the details - THis kind of activity is what artists and crafts people do. Work with and experiment with materials and tools, finding that special way of working or that design look that makes your heart sing.
Also - remember that the metal clays are still new materials and there are lots of work methods to be discovered and refined.

Thanks for the reply. I ended up refiring a couple of times for a longer period just to be sure. It turned out super nice.
I think that piece was a bentch mark for me as I have made huge progress since then.
