Suggestions for a Winning Image
Let's face it, a great image, whether a slide, digital image, film-based image or scan,
will greatly increase your chances of winning. A distant, blurry image won't
allow the fine quality of your creation to shine through to the judges.

Tips to help your submission get the attention it deserves:
     • Fill as much of your image space with your piece as possible, showing your
item at or near actual size.
     • Your piece should be well-lit and in focus.
     • Do not use props or models.
     • Avoid loud and distracting backgrounds. Neutral solid backgrounds, such as
       gray or white, are preferable.
     • Use tungsten or diffused natural daylight; be cautious of glares, bright reflections
       and dark shadows.
     • Instead of a camera, try using a flatbed scanner. For a quick and surprisingly
good-quality image, most items less than 3" thick can be placed directly onto
the scanner bed. You may need to move the item a few times, to get the best
angle on every part (because you're looking at the back of your piece when you
set it down). This only works if your scanner can scan at 300dpi or higher resolutions.

Don't Have the Equipment for Professional-Quality Images?
     • Consider hiring a professional photographer to take your pictures. No matter the
contest outcome, you'll always have a nice image of the piece for your own records
       or promotions.
     • Send us your piece. Physical entries will be photographed/scanned and returned to
you promptly (please allow 3-4 weeks for turnaround time). We are not liable for
lost or damaged items (but we'll do our best to be careful!).
