Trippin' to R&T

Rings & Things has taken the great materials provided by the CTR office and put its own spin on them in order to fit the program in with the unique culture at R&T.
This helps to increase recognition and support by making the elements of CTR more readily identifiable.

Rings & Things became voluntarily involved in CTR six years ago when the program caught the attention of the owner, Russ Nobbs. An avid user of commute alternatives, Russ saw an opportunity to help the community. "As a lifetime bicyclist I've always encouraged staff to ride, walk or take the bus to work. When our location was more convenient for bus riders (i.e. downtown) I subsidized bus passes. In our new location it made sense to encourage less single occupant vehicles in other ways." He took it upon himself to reach out and get the company involved. When asked why CTR is important to the company mission of Rings & Things, Russ replied, "R&T believes in treading lightly on the earth. It's not easy to find ways to be environmentally conscious in our consumer-driven society. CTR is just one of the ways we have found to encourage our staff to use less resources."Management support is essential to the success of the program. Many managers and supervisors at Rings & Things regularly carpool, bike, or ride the bus to set an example for others. The company makes commute alternatives a viable option for everyone by providing many amenities and benefits that discourage the use of single-occupant vehicles. Among the services and benefits provided here are lockers, banking, break room, full kitchen, relaxation room, many restaurants within walking distance, washer and dryer, shipping, showers, coat racks, indoor bike parking, bike pumps and tire patch kits, casual dress (great for those who walk), flexible scheduling, telecommuting, and discounted bus passes.
