The Bead Museum in DC is heavily involved in the bead and beading community.
If you live in or visit the DC area, we encourage you to visit and support them.
They have had special exhibits and exhibitions featuring contemporary glass bead makers, as well as ancient beads and beaded artwork from Africa and other countries.
The Museum's centerpiece and permanent collection is a recreation of the famous Bead Time-Line chart in Lois Sherr Dubin's History of Beads, in the form of actual beads donated by supporters worldwide. The Bead Museum in DC would happy to accept donations of beads for the Time-Line, as well as funds. To find out which beads they are still looking for, or to find out more about the Bead Museum in DC, visit them on the web: www.beadmuseumdc.org
The museums' landmark reference library is available to scholars and collectors, BSGW (Bead Society of Greater Washington) members, and the general public. This library includes books, journals, magazines, monographs, articles, videos, catalogues, and slides on a full range of bead-related subjects.
Popular and hard to find books, newsletters, monographs, and articles are offered for sale in the museum store.
