The Society of Bead Researchers
The Society of Bead Researchers
The Society of Bead Researchers was formed in 1981 to foster research on beads of all
materials and periods, and to expedite the dissemination of the resultant knowledge.
Membership is open to all persons involved in the study of beads, as well as those
interested in keeping abreast of current trends in bead research.
The Society publishes a biannual newsletter, The Bead Forum, and an annual journal, Beads.
Potential members, especially libraries, should note that while they will receive their
newsletters during the membership year, the journal, BEADS, is published in the following
year(s). Hence, members who join in 2007, for example, will not receive their 1998 journal
until around the end of 2008.

Some Bead Research Do’s and Don’ts

- Do beome familiar with your subject matter.
- Do take archaeology and ethnology courses.
- Do consult the experts.
- Do use a microscope.
- Do include good color illustrations in your reports.
- Do join the Society of Bead Researchers.
- Don’t believe everything you read or hear.
- Don’t ask questions which can be answered with a yes or no.
- Don’t buy archaeological specimens.
Beads: Journal of the Society of Bead Researchers
Beads is an annual journal, published by the Society of Bead Researchers, devoted to the
publication of scholarly articles on various aspects of bead research. Each issue is
enhanced by 6-7 pages of color illustrations, as well as several book reviews.
