Niobium is an excellent metal for most people with metal allergies. It's an inert metal, very resistant to corrosion and other reactions, and is used in medical implants. It contains no nickel, lead, or other additives. Niobium is not plated or painted, so will not flake or chip. It is anodized, meaning it is colored by dipping it into an electrically charged "bath."
Create the eye-pin crystal component before assembling earrings. See Basic Jewelry-Making Technique Sheet (PDF) for detailed instructions on making beaded eye pins, and best method for opening and closing jump rings.
