Queen of Hearts Necklace Tutorial
Created by: Mollie Valente
Use the hole-punch pliers to punch two holes in the top of the crown for hanging, and one hole in the bottom for heart adornment.
Clean the brass crown blank with the a sanding sponge. Clean the brass-side of the rhinestone chain
With the soldering iron, apply flux to the brass-side of the rhinestone chain and then carefully apply a small dot of soft solder to the back of each rhinestone back.
Place the crown on the center of the soldering tripod's screen. Apply flux to the crown and position the rhinestone chain on the crown.
Ignite and adjust your torch to a focused flame. Gradually apply heat from below the tripod screen, watching for the solder to flow (soft solder flows very quickly, you will see a flash of silver when it flows). If necessary, use the solder pick to adjust the position of the rhinestone chain. Once the solder flows, immediately remove the flame.
Allow the soldered crown to cool, then clean with dish soap and water. Dry the piece and apply Novacan patina, then polish to desired finish with the polishing cloth.
Add a 6mm jump ring to each hanging loop.
Use a 6mm jump ring to attach the heart crystal to the crown.
Make four beaded connectors; for each connector: string a glass bead, rhinestone wheel, and glass bead onto an eye pin and finish the end with a matching basic loop.
Cut the chain into the following lengths: two 1" sections, two 2" sections, and two 7" sections.
Use 4.5mm jump rings to connect the following parts: crown to 1" chain, beaded component, 2" chain, beaded component, and 7" chain. Repeat this step for the other side of the necklace.
Finish one side of the necklace with a 5mm jump ring; finish the second side with a 5mm jump ring and lobster clasp.
